Review of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002) by Irfaan J — 09 Jan 2008
An intelligently made animated film that shows an attention to detail charactersitic of the best from the meduim. The story and character arcs may be on the light side but they are nevertheless compelling, thanks to the brave choice to have all the animals mute, thus yielding some fantastic animation to portray the subtle body language and facial expressions of the horses that progress the story.
The animation as a whole was at the time some of the best that any studio had done, disney or otherwise (their equal at least), but it still impresses today. Great family entertainment and a reason we shouldn't leave the hand drawn legacy behind for pure computer animation.
