Review of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) by Colewinberg — 22 Dec 2021
Not sure how someone who hasn’t been watching these Spider-Man movies their whole life would feel about this movie. That being said, I am not that. I have been a Spider-Man fan my whole life and I’d compare this movie to Avengers Endgame, in the way that it is a event film that is greatly improved by the consumer seeing all the previous films.
Where Endgame fails, I would say is not telling the most interesting of stories, but instead relying on it being a lot of fan service, though it is well done. No way home does have its share of fan service but, at its core it tells a classic Spider-Man story.
With lots of emotional moments, that are enhanced by the amazing score. Great villains, and real stakes. Often time with the MCU movies they will cut short emotional scenes to tell a joke. That’s not the case here, when the emotional moments take place they let them sit.
I would say I this is a must see movie for anyone who cares about the Spider-Man character. I am biased, as I have stated I’ve been watching these movies since I was a kid. So for me this is probably my favorite MCU film.
I’m not blind to the problems. The set up for the whole film is quite weak, and the writing in the first half of the movie is not on par with the second. For me and my experience with the film, I can excuse the mistakes, but I’d understand if others can’t.
