Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by Zack R — 21 Jan 2019
When the movie opened with the main character mumbling along to the music, I knew it was going to be a good one. If the movie goes to the length to portray the characters with such genuine personalities, it is going to be better than the competition. The movie feels so accurate in its portrayal of miles being an awkward middle school kid who all the sudden is a superhero. Things just keep happening that he has no control over. When the action starts picking up it turns into everyone tossing him around until they can deal with the problem. When he finally gains control of his power it feels like he earned.
The whole cast does really well. I love John Mulaney and I'm kind of surprised he did so well in a kids movie considering majority of his humor is mature. I was worried about Nick Cage, but he didn't have too many lines and didn't do anything insane so I was fine with it.
Overall, it was a great movie and I hope more studios pay attention to how this movie approached its characters.
