Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by Samuel H — 12 Jan 2019
As a cinemaphile, as an animation enthusiast, as a comic book geek, and *especially* as a dad, this movie hit every bullseye. I have no complaints. It's wholly unique in animation technique (which is breathtakingly stunning), it nails the score, it nails the writing, it nails the cinematography, it nails the editing.
It respects its audience, it celebrates the universe in stands in, it embraces and amplifies and explodes in comic book personality. I could nitpick but it really doesn't deserve that. It's the real deal kind of cinema.
And, now, as a dad. Oh jeez. I saw it with my 6-year-old daughter, and... Whew. Was not expecting the emotional impact. This film is has got some piercing profoundness for both young and old generations.
