Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by Rolando G — 08 Jan 2019
Spider verse is fun and compelling. A nice fun way of telling the nobody hero trope and then elevating it with fun characters and engaging character relationships and development. With nice callbacks to the style of vintage comics, references, and Stan Lee, this is the spider man movie that tops the others.
Miles' character is fun and compelling as he goes from a nobody to the next new spider man. He calls back to past scenes throughout the movie which helps him learn and fight. Plus the fun can take any turn since it isn't part of the MCU.
Peter B Parker is the nice but more realistic mentor, spider ham is cartoonishly fun, Peni is kawaii, noir is the most interesting one of the bunch, and spider Gwen is also a plus. The villains are also fun with a twist.
For both the prowler and kingpin. Though some of the villains motivations aren't fully told or shown, kingpin's is and it's understandable the lengths he goes to. Overall one of the best movie of 2018.
