Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by Slewis4449 — 18 Dec 2018
I Love love love love this movie. Don't get me wrong, it isn't particularly innovative in its story. Origin stories usually follow a certain track in order to include necessary features. The thing that makes this movie great is the way it tells a story we all know. The characters: Great!! They are well fleshed out, and I rarely actually feel for a character in movies, but there was authenticity that just led to likable people, and the humor helped a lot.
The plot: As said before, the story wasn't particularly special, but the pacing was fantastic. Each scene seamlessly bled into the next, and narrative momentum is something I think we, unfortunately, lack in modern movies, but this definitely had it. You won't feel like a scene is unneeded.
The cinematography: DAMN was it good. You just have to see it to know what I mean, but the stylistic choices of the movie give it such an original feel and work as a story-telling tool that makes it fresh and new. It's just a beautiful movie if you only care about that.
