Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by Devaughn B — 13 Dec 2018
This film just may be my favorite film of the year right now, no doubt. Everything I wanted and so much more, from the story, the characters, right down to the stellar animation. The animation here is flawless, a comic book brought to life - the thought and speech bubbles, the panel transitions and grainy style at times, perfection. Seriously this story is so full of charm and heart, and the best part is that Miles' journey isn't rushed at all. This isn't a long film, but it still takes its time to give the main characters their narrative arcs. There are some excellent comedic moments, wonderful easter eggs to search for, and of course a heartwarming cameo by Stan Lee.
The entire voice cast is remarkable as well - Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson as Peter, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen, Mahershala Ali, Liev Schreiber, and so so many more! There are so many surprise voice cameos that I won't spoil here, look them up if you're interested but they are definitely pleasant surprises. I definitely plan on catching this one again, in 3D next time for sure. PLEASE check it out, and stay thru those credits until the very end, for a mindblowing post-credits scene!
