Review of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) by Trevor D — 14 Dec 2018
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse does everything right. Honestly. It knew exactly what it was and delivered on it. We know Peter Parker, MJ, Aunt May and the rest of the Parker social circle. We don't need that to be beaten into our heads again and it knew that. It connects the dots without showing you the process of running the string. What I love is how much it truly understood what it was. It moved quickly and got us into the action but knew just how much information to give you so you knew what was going on and enough so you can look up more later. The way it brought the Spider-Family together and gave them personality so quickly is really a testament to the art style, film direction and the way it told the store. I actually got choked up in a scene and I just met these characters an hour ago.
I honestly believe this is the first step in what can be a truly robust and fleshed out franchise for Sony. The team they put on this knew just what we needed and it wasn't more high school Peter Parker. We have one and he's doing a great job and his next story is around the corner; so let's highlight a new range of characters in the same universe. Well not actually the same universe; the whole multi-verse thing is at play after all. I want to see more of this and it looks like they know that.
I have a feeling they know how much ass they just kicked and they plan on kicking some more.
