Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Christopher W — 21 Nov 2017
Man, these people at Marvels can put in work like no one else. This is the well-rounded Spider-Man movie and one that's not overly silly or badly dialogued or trying to tell a bunch of stories at once. It takes a lot of the best parts of the last two Spider-Man movie series & combines them nicely .
This movie feels a lot like The Spectacular Spider-Man animated show from a decade ago. It captures a lot of what that show did with the high school superhero story and actually feels like a young teen in high school and not a bunch of almost 30 year olds playing kids. It spends a good amount of time with him actually in class and just being a young geeky teen.
The rest of the cast helps out with that as well. They help this movie to feel like a actual lived in world and not just a cast of people trying to tell a superhero story. The other teens in the movie do a great job being their own characters and are well casted in their roles. I love the High School atmosphere in this movie.
It also has a likeable Spider-Man/ Peter Parker and a really good villain in the same movie for once. Michael Keaton does a very good job as the vulture and actually feels like he matter to the story and not just a bad guy for Spider-Man 2 fight. The kid playing Spider-Man is just as great as he was in Civil War. And I really like the addition of IronMan to this movie in the Mentor role. It helps evolve his character a lot & it shows a Tony Stark's who has grown since the last movie. Also really like Donald Glover as well and hope to see a lot more from him in the character he's playing. There's a lot to do with that.
The only real problem I had with this movie was the end fight scene. It was an okay fight scene and I like the story it told but it just felt like it moved a lil too fast at points and would have liked to see the little bit more actual fighting between the two instead of just more action stunts.
But other than that I really enjoyed this movie and it's most definitely my favorite Spider-Man movie so far. 4/5.
