Review:

Although this movie made a massive profit, I really didn't enjoy it, mainly because it seemed like it was made for kids. The storyline also wasn't that great, and the whole "college student" element got on my nerves after a while. After watching the introduction of the new Spiderman in Captain America: Civil War, I was quite excited about this movie but it turned out to be a big let down. Anyway, Tom Holland takes the lead from Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, and he's out to impress Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) so he can become an Avenger. With Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) keeping a close eye on him, he goes through school hoping to get the call to be involved in a mission but he ends up taking on a mission of his own, to try and prove that he has the ability to become an Avenger. Whilst serving the public in minor missions, he finally comes across a bunch of bank robbers, who use some fancy weapons which have never been seen before. When he tries to warn Tony Stark, he brushes him off, so he is forced to find out were these weapons come from, with the help of his close friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). When he finds out the root of the source, he tries to use all of his super human powers to take him down but he's pushed to the limit, which makes him question if he is ready to join the Avengers. Its quite a simple storyline which joins onto the other Marvel movies but the director wasted to much time on silly scenes which eventually become irrelevant. Michael Keaton really did save the day in this movie, along with Downey Jr. and Favreau but the main character became irritating and quite annoying. The suit looked impressive and some of the action scenes were half decent but they were not in the same league as the action scenes in Spiderman 2, when he is fighting against Doc Ock. I don't really have high expectations for the next movie in this franchise but I'm hoping that he will make an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War which is due to be released next year with the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Dr. Strange. Disappointing!

Round-Up:

This movie was written by Jon Watts, 36, who also brought you Clown in 2014, and Cop Car in 2015. Judging by his previous projects, I'm surprised that he was chosen to take on such a huge franchise, especially after the disappointing Amazing Spiderman reboot. I'm sure the studios are happy with the profit this movie made but that's not to say that this movie was actually any good. With the DC comics releasing there blockbusters in the near future, Jon Watts really needs to step up, before this gets canned like the poor Batman and Superman reboots. Anyway, at 21 years old, Tom Holland has really hit the jackpot with a role in the Marvel camp, and with the Impossible, How I Live Now, Locke and In The Heart Of The Sea behind him, he hasn't done too bad so far. He's also been cast as Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie so he has a lot to look forward to but I personally think that we need to see a serious side to Spiderman, because this jokey side has been done to death.

Budget: $175million.

Worldwide Gross: $880.2million.

Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi.

Cast: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Bokeem Woodbine and Tyne Daly. 4/10.
