I would like to start by saying that I am a big comic book fan and it was pretty cool to see Spider-Man finally come to the MCU, however we saw that in Civil War and need something new. To start with what I like Michael Keaton as the vulture is amazing, a hallmark of the movies in the MCU is that their villains suck but he was amazing with and without his mask.

Tom holland as Spider-Man was also pretty good, however there is very little change or development of his character which is a problem. Iron Man is always good and he isn't in the movie that much.

The movie also doesn't feel like it starts until he enters halfway through the movie. Some fight scenes are cool and a lot of jokes land which is good. There is one phenomenal scene with Michael Keaton and Tom Holland interacting both without their masks.

With all that said there are a number of problems in this movie. The love interest is mostly used as a plot device and you see no reason for her to be with Peter. The final fight scene is disorienting and difficult to watch and not get lost.

Certain jokes ruin moments one in particular with Michael Keaton. Aunt May is over sexualized which is something that I never thought I'd ever write. The worst thing though in a lot of ways is that we don't know why Peter is Spider-Man.

You can assume if you've read comic books or seen Spider-Man movies in the other two versions that it is because Uncle Ben died, but he is never discussed and they change so much from the comics and other movies that you feel like you can't assume that.

Because of that I wish we had seen Spider-Man's origins even if it was quick like Batman's in BvS. Another problem is that for a large portion of the movie it feels like a crappy Disney Channel movie hell it even has some of the same actors as a crappy Disney Channel movie.

For those reasons I'm giving it a 2/5 the negatives really outweigh the positives and I hope that they can do better next time, because I'd love to see Spider-Man done right.
