Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Robert O — 04 Aug 2017
I have to say that this movie was a tough sell for me. This new Hollywood trend of rebooting movie franchises just years after the last movie was made is pretty obnoxious to me. when The Amazing Spider-Man came out I was a little annoyed with it but I was willing to give it a chance with a new Peter Parker and I was pleasantly surprised that the new ones were better than the original three.
So after finally accepting Andrew Garfield as the new Peter Parker ... they come around and bring in a new (younger) one and take this whole new approach to Spider-Man. It was a tough sell. BUT just like my skepticism going into the 1st reboot I was also pleasantly surprised with how well this new version turned out.
It doesn't spend any time killing Uncle Ben for a third time or going over the origin story again, it just jumped right into the movie, picking up right where Civil War left off and exploring Peter Parker's awkward High School experience.
Michael Keaton does a great job with the Vulture and it's a really fun movie, the first of many I'm sure. Maybe.
