Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Samuel P — 25 Jul 2017
A Spider-Man movie that is fun to watch, delivers superhero thrills, and brings a little of what made the Raimi films good back by making you care about the young hero. Faithful to the character, this film is touching and exciting, showing how tough it would be for an average kid to be Spider-Man.
THe film does, however, lacka proper understanding of the character's motivation at times, relying on the audience seeing the older films for knowledge of the backstory. Other than that, the film is genuinely original in many of its narrative ideas, such as hinting to older audiences that Tony is serious about wanting Peter to be better than him.
(IN real life, Downey Jr. recovered from a severe drug addiction.) Overall, 8.5/10 is my rating.
