Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Joshua R — 10 Jul 2017
Tom Holland is a perfect fit for this lighthearted spider-man film, as it accurately portrays how life would be like for a teenage superhero. However, compared to other Spider-Man movies, it still ranks behind the first two, starring Toby Maguire, and directed by Sam Raimi.
The main point of the film is to show how Peter Parker struggles with balancing his life between school, and being a superhero. Spider-man is a new, young, superhero who still has a lot to learn before he can become an Avenger, but the film gets carried away and spends too much of its time portraying Spider-Man as an incompetent, hot headed, teenager, who eventually has to rely on the help of others to overcome obstacles. Not the type of Superhero who would be able to steal Captain America's shield, and fight among the strongest, and brightest superheros Marvel has to offer, right? Not to mention, when comparing "The Vulture" to other super villains, he is by far the least interesting one yet, out of the Marvel movies (that is not to discredit Michael Keaton's performance).
In conclusion, the movie overall is definitely worth seeing. It will entertain you with goofy teenage humor, and well directed action scenes, just don't expect a Spider-man who can kick some serious ass, and a complex super villain.
