Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Alex M — 06 Jul 2017
Absolutely the BEST Spider-Man film to date!!! I didn't know what to expect when I went to see this film. I was hoping for a good movie and what I got to see was a great movie. This movie pretty much picks up where Civil War left off for Peter Parker. I love that he's still learning what he can do and trying to be a super hero but at the same time, he's a smart but dumb teenage boy and acts like one too. He wants so badly to be a super hero that he doesn't realize that there are steps to becoming one. Essentially, he's the epitome of a teenager...too eager to be a grown up and that they know everything.
This movie is such a departure of all of the previous Spider-Man films. The tone and the stakes are much different. It is so funny, I got dizzy at one point because I laughed so hard. I enjoyed the new cast of characters. His best friend is really annoying at times, but at the same time, he's so endearing. Aunt May is under utilized and dressed down, but she made me laugh so hard. The spider suit itself is a character and it is so fun to see. I don't want to give anything away, but you'll know what I'm talking about when you watch the movie.
The villain was played by Michael Keaton and he crushed it. He makes the Vulture a believable character due to his backstory and why he's doing what he does. You can empathize his struggle. It doesn't absolve him of what he is doing, but you can see his point of view and understand it.
This movie is blessed with a great cast, writing and special effects. The balance is perfect and I'm SO happy that Marvel got to take the lead in making this film. I can't wait for the next one. I can't recommend this movie enough...Go See It!!!
