Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Jeff F — 06 Jul 2017
While this film breaks no new ground, it does have it's charms. Tom Holland is easily the best actor to assume this role and he seems to thoroughly enjoy his time on screen. The obvious tie-ins to the MCU are apparent but not too overwhelming.
Michael Keaton is excellent in the role of the villain but is terribly under used in the film. If future films can keep Spiderman within the context of NYC and on the level of shows like DareDevil and Jessica Jones.
.. this new franchise can succeed and thrive. If they throw him into the alien invasion galactic CGI sagas of the Avengers... it'll probably fail.
