Review of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) by Carol H — 07 Jul 2017
It was good. Fun high school drama with some crime-action thriller. Sadly, the action isn't the films best--lots of other superhero films have better. Lots of action films have better fist-fighting. But the action is chock full of little story moments, which helps make up for the not-very-interesting CGI. Drags a little in places, making you feel like you're watching an after-school special, but the superhero stuff helps to bring the zing back every time you start to get bored.
The combination of boring realism and hyper-realistic superpowers creates a very grounded film. I'd like to rewatch this one, not for the action or pallid plot, but the little touches of humorous backstory every single bit character has. You really believe this is the kind of crazy world that would happen in the MCU. The final line still has me laughing a day later!
