Review of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) by Egoborder — 09 Oct 2019
I was shocked by how little of what this movie is going for actually lands. It seems in the process of expanding Spider-Man's world the writers forgot to give the webslinger himself something to do. As it is, this comes off more as an ensemble comedy than an adventure, despite great pains to raise the stakes by having Peter and his friends traveling around Europe.
The brightest point here is, ironically, Gyllenhaal's dark villain Mysterio. Unfortunately, the entire premise of illusion and misdirection doesn't serve the movie well because the twists are telegraphed way in advance and it just feels like you're waiting for the movie to catch up with the audience.
A few good moments but utterly forgettable.
