Review of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) by Pupperoni — 03 Jul 2019
Peter Parkers character from homecoming to far from home seems to be very inconsistent. In homecoming we saw Peter abandon his normal life to pursue a criminal who's just stealing some high tech weapons (the overall implications of that conflict in the marvel universe are very small.
) In far from home Peter is presented with a world ending threat, massive and monstrous elementals that could consume the earth, but instead of confronting the issue and abandoning his class trip every chance he could like he would have in homecoming, he denies the call to action and only acts when Nick Fury changes the class trips course.
Ah yes, we have yet another class trip plot line, and this one is not nearly as well executed as homecomings. Mysterios motivations and goals seem very... vague, to say the least. Exactly why he can't become an ACTUAL superhero, what with his illusions and the drones he seems to have mental control over is completely unknown to me.
Attacking london and killing hundreds of thousands seems like a much more reasonable course of action. The fights in this movie are well executed, save for the fire elemental, which I found very confusing and even boring.
Some have complained about "generic big CGI fights" and while the finale is big, and it does have CGI, I would not call it generic or poorly executed. The humor is good for the most part, but the amount of jokes that fall flat is somewhat concerning.
I don't see any need for those jokes, and the movie is packed to the brim with so much humor that cutting out a few mild-nose-breathing level jokes wouldn't hurt the movie. Not a terrible movie, but I would only recommend watching it if you are a marvel fan that cares about the grand plot of the series, both spider-man and marvel as a whole, as far from home may effect the others.
