Review of Spider-Man 3 (2007) by Cj S — 23 Aug 2015
Less refined than the first two spider-films, the story is bogged down by simply too many villains and too many character subplots that are riddled with too many plot contrivances. Despite the excess, it is still put together by Raimi and co. with the same energy and charm as its predecessors. You can almost forgive it's shortcomings, because it still does it's job to entertain. Of course it also dazzles with great Spider-Man action and visual fx. Overall it's a first rate production, but it was based on a messy script in dire need of some fine tuning.
It's not the absolute ideal capper to Raimi's trilogy, but it wraps up well enough with the emotional investment we've had with these characters thru that 3 film journey... and the last moment shared with Peter and MJ is heartfelt and reminds us of what Peter said in the beginning of Spider-Man 1...
"It was all about a girl.".
