Review of Spider-Man 3 (2007) by Aazan M — 25 Apr 2014

What should have been the best Spider-man ever, with the conclusion of Harry's revenge on Spider-man / Peter Parker, Peter and MJ being together.

Finally and, the comic book fans favorite villain, Venom, failed miserably. The film seems cluttered and rushed, even though Sam Raimi gave himself 3 years to work on it. To be fair, Spiderman 2 was a tough film to follow and to be greater than perfect is really not possible, but this film has so many awkward and bad moments that it was a complete let down. Firstly, having tried 3 villains in one movie, there was not enough development and you seemed to forget about certain characters when they re-appeared suddenly, This film would probably be a lot better if Sam Rami saved Sandman for another film and gave Harry and Venom a lot more screen time. Secondly, having waited 2 films for Peter and MJ to get together, they still seemed to act the same around each other, of course with the occasional kiss, and the fact they sort of break up half way through just really made the build up in the previous film a complete waist. There seemed to be no charisma between them and MJ's character became very irritating as the film progressed. And thirdly, Venom. Probably the biggest anticipation of the movie and what everyone wanted to see, but people only got to see 20 minutes of him. And that wasn't even very good. What should have been a dark, brute-like, intimidating character, came off as a scrawny, deprived wimp. When he should have roared, he screeched. Where he was supposed to be twice the size of Spiderman, he was smaller than him. Of course there is the Symbiote Peter Parker which everyone agrees that he should not have started dancing in the street. Other than that, the film had good qualities, the action was good, Aunt May was inspiring as usual and when I saw this in cinema I was glued to my seat, it was only after did I start to criticize.
