Review of Spider-Man 3 (2007) by Andy G — 11 Jul 2014
It does a few things right. For example, pretty much everything to do with Sandman is spot on, and the action sequences with the New Goblin are great as well, but it also does so much wrong as well. Raimi was never particularly great at recreating these characters, but I found it particularly funny that Gwen Stacey in this movie was closer to Mary Jane than Mary Jane herself.
The worst offenses of this movie, unfortunately, have everything to do with the symbiote. While the symbiote visuals were alright, story wise it was just basically a bad parody of what it should have been.
The emo Peter, the stupid dance sequences, the whiny Eddie Brock, the pathetically shrugged off Venom. Also, the whole thing where Harry made that creepy smile in practically every scene he was in was laughably stupid.
So many missteps, mainly due to studio intervention, but there are plenty of good scenes in the movie as well, so it's still worth a watch, but I much prefer the way the Spectacular Spider-man TV show handled this storyline.
