Review of Spider-Man (2002) by Johnny C — 06 Mar 2015
To me, this film is the benchmark that all superhero films since have owed a debt to. In a way, yes you had Blade and X-Men doing fresh takes on these iconic heroes, but this one gave us the actual tried and true comic book superhero in his purest form, something that nearly every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has also tried to do since Iron Man.
It really was ahead of its time, and yet perfect for its time as well in a post-9/11 era when we all needed a hero, and aside from gods like Superman and Batman, there is no greater than the one who embodies qualities of both and yet gives them heart: Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man!
