Review of Spider-Man 2 (2004) by Jared W — 21 Jun 2013
A comic book movie virtuoso, Spider-man 2 was the first truly great superhero film since Richard Donner's original versions of Superman and Superman II. Gone is the strange and uneven presentation and pace of the original film and in its place is an incredible and perfectly woven tale full of comic book melodrama in all the best connotations of the term.
By leaning heavily on the wonderful cast already assembled for the first film, Raimi successful crafts a beautiful, hilarious, and often very touching tapestry of character and action that will please every conceivable audience while remaining true to the very core essence of Spider-Man.
Often feeling more like an intimate independent film with an unlimited budget, Spider-Man 2 transcends every notion of what a comic book movie could be to rise as the very finest Marvel comics based film yet produced.
An epic masterpiece on every level.
