Review of Spider-Man 2 (2004) by Stefan N — 22 Dec 2013
Spider-Man 2 has been regarded as the best superhero movie ever made. While, I don't completely disagree with this statement, I have to say I think its just as good as the first. The expected achievements are there: the theme, the visual effects, and the entertainment.
The screenplay is far superior to the first film in the series. This time the villain is a round character, Peter Parker faces real struggles, Mary Jane is not a damsel in distress, and the story seems larger.
The first film felt confined to the life of Peter Parker and Norman Osborn, but this time all of New York and its citizens are the setting. However, what I found lacking was the creepy villain and the horror-esque mood.
I really think Raimi directs it less like a horror movie which I really miss. Also, the entire third act is predictable and rushed. All in all, this movie really establishes the trilogy as serious and fun, light-hearted and scary,and most of all majestic.
