Review of Spider-Man 2 (2004) by Adam S — 03 May 2014
Like it's predecessor, Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 2" is a film that, for the most part, avoids the cheesiness of the Spider-Man franchise (although not completely) and creates a surprisingly decent pre-Nolan superhero movie.
With Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James France, J.K. Simmons and Rosemary Harris returning from the first installment, and Alfred Molina and Donna Murphy being added to the cast, this film shows a conflicted Peter Parker attempting to reconcile his everyday life with his role as Spider-Man, eventually revealing his identity to those closest to him. Meanwhile, Dr Octopus tries to blow up half of New York.
It's a nice little story, but once again the comic inspired action is a bit insipid and repetitive, which is one of the flaws of all of the Spider-Man films to date. Still, it's not the worst film out there by any stretch of the imagination.
