Review of Spider-Man 2 (2004) by Landon M — 23 Dec 2015

You know those movies that just don't get enough respect nowadays? This is one of them. Spider-Man 2 is one of my favorite movies of all time...like Top 5 favorite. Alongside The Empire Strikes Back and The Dark Knight, this movie ranks with my top 5 favorite movies.

I guess I have a love for sequels that improve upon the original in every way. This movie is darker, more serious, and more intense than its predecessor, while retaining the lighthearted tone and amazing Raimi direction.

The characters grow in many different ways, and the story never stalls. The music is amazing and the cinematography are superb. The visual effects are amazing, and still hold up to this day. The old characters are still fantastic, and the new characters are also great.

Doc Ock, played amazingly by Alfred Molina, is the best incarnation of a Spider-Man villain ever put on the big screen. He is intimidating, while at the same time has a reason and motivation for his actions.

The story is fantastic and makes you question whether or not being a hero is worth it. There are so many amazing moments in this movie, from the many fantastic scenes of Spidey swinging through the air, to the many fights with Doc Ock, to the moments where Peter has to save people without the use of his powers.

The train fight sequence is one of the best action sequences ever put in a superhero movie, or maybe any movie ever. The visuals of that scene still hold up and it is a "marvel" to watch. The ending is fantastic as well.

Overall, Spider-Man 2 is a movie I loved as a kid, and love even more as an adult. It gets better with each rewatch, and will always be one of the best superhero movies ever made. 10/10.
