Review of Spider-Man (1977) by Maggie B — 18 Apr 2015
Great characters, good writing and humor, good story, ten times better than the original trilogy storyline and character wise.... but no movie is without is flaws. The pacing of it felt rushed and lacked of development especially for the villain (after he turns) and for Peter to learn about responsibility.
.. well sort of. He does say he accepts the responsibility of being a hero but when you look back at it, what did he do to learn that lesson? He never took time to analyze what it truly meant to be a hero and there were opportunities for it to develop but was either rushed or side tracked by how he uses his power.
That's what I can admit that the old had on the new... pacing. Like you can argue the movie knew it was a reboot of a franchise still barely out of the oven and just skipped to the good parts per say.
Other than that, I love Andrew Garfield as Peter, the cinematography is beautiful and colorful, and I like the new and realistic take on our friendly neighborhood friend Spider-Man... and thank God we never have to deal with the Mary Jane of the old movies, God was she a tool and a pain in my neck.
I'm glad for the reboot but God, the pacing and development can de distracting for me. But I will award this movie an average 3 out of 5 stars.
