Review of Spider-Man (1977) by Devin W — 28 May 2015
Webb does what he can, but he can't save the mediocre script and lacktuster story from James Vanderbilt, Steve Kloves and Alvin Sargent. Which unfortunately uses recycled elements from the original film.
Andrew Garfield shows a good balance between Peter Parker and Spider-Man, but really wasn't given the opportunity to shine. Chemistry between him and Emma Stone (Gwen Stacey) was fine, but cliche.
The action was average, with a weak undeveloped villain in Dr. Connors/Lizard. But the biggest letdown is the sudden disappearance of the "Untold Story". Sony strikes again with interfering towards the directors craft, leading to an overall mediocre film.
Hopefully The Amazing Spider-Man 2 makes up for this so-so reboot.
