Review of Spider-Man (1977) by Brandon W — 08 Jun 2015
The Amazing Spider-Man is a fantastic reboot that I actually think is the best Spider-Man film so far. The costume look really nice and does make it flexible of Peter Parker to move around from swinging webs.
Andrew Garfield is really great on this and is better than Tobey Maguire. Emma Stone is great as Gwen Stacy, the character is way smarter than Mary Jane from Tobey Maguire's version, and the chemistry between her and Peter is one of the best parts of the film.
The effects look gorgeous, and the design on the Lizard look really nice. The writing is really good, and give a sense of what Spider-Man is like with a balance of being a dorky kid, while also being a smart mouth hero which are really funny.
Rhys Ifans is effectively menacing, and Denis Leary is having a lot of fun who I think is just great casting for him. People are arguing about the web shooters which I'm actually fine with, and also the scenes that are similar to the Tobey Maguire version which the only thing I have to say, is that when they are trying to reinvent the character, they have to put scenes in there, but they don't make it too similar as they are trying to make it different in terms of tone or the way it's handled.
Tye movie is an amazing way to start the character again that I really want to see where it's going next.
