Review of Spider-Man (1977) by Dorian G — 10 Jun 2016
Not the worst Spider-Man film, but far from great. I liked the technical aspects of the character, using webs for many interesting purposes (launches himself lots!), and it showed the true struggles of trying to find buildings to swing from. Some very campy scenes, I question the script writer's ability in about half the film, but the scenes with Garfield and Stone are great, they have wonderful natural chemistry, it seems like many of their back-and-forths were ad-libbed. A few good action scenes, but they over rely on CG, and it doesn't look the best, especially when battling the lizard. I don't think there were many practical stunts at all, which is too bad, comparing to Tobey Maguire's first 2 turns as the title character.
Worth watching though, for fans or not. I'm excited to watch the sequel!
