Review of Spider-Man (1977) by Kirk H — 31 Jan 2018
Ugh. How are you guys liking this movie? I got half way through it and just had to stop. I couldn't watch anymore. It just doesn't work in any form. Garfield doesn't work (Tobey was perfectly cast in 2002) and seemed to be trying really hard to be clumsy.
Emma Stone isn't "The girl" like the Kirsten Dunst was. JK Simmons was hilarious. It was a perfect complement to The Amazing Spiderman cartoon I enjoyed as a kid. This, on the other hand is just a rocky ride.
The plot doesn't work. It just doesn't. The cast doesn't work. Dennis Leary? Come on. The costume doesn't make sense. The tech isn't explained. The entire movie feels like it's cut together and has been edited to death.
I understood everything that happened, but I don't "get" any of it. I don't "feel it". Not for me. No thanks.
