Review of Spider Baby (1967) by Anna N — 31 Oct 2007
Exploitation maestro, Jack Hill introduces his spectator to a horror-family far more dangerous and deranged than the Addams Family. Instead of witty quips regarding pain and a love of scary things, the family in Spider Baby kills, slashes, consumes, and digests a slew of victims.
For the most part, Spider Baby lays the foundation for laughter instead of trying to inspire queasiness via excessive gore. However, the pacing and cinematography create a creepy atmosphere that doesn't let you forget that the film's true genre is horror.
