Review of Spice World (1997) by James R — 30 Dec 2010
Strong contender for worst film ever made; but has the saving grace of not taking itself too seriously. This was never going to be an oscar winning film; handy really as none of the five protagonists can act - and Richard E Grant has sold his soul.
This is a horrible mess of a movie, put together hastily, scripted for teenage girls and features cameos by some very big names, all who look like they've been given a huge wad of cash to say some rather cheesy lines.
I suspect strongly this was the case. Just when you think the film can't get any worse they go into a Gary Glitter tribute and Michael Barrymore appears and does a John Cleese impression. This movie is horrendous, on all levels, it doesn't stand the test of time and the only saving grace is the fact that every single person involved, other than the horrific spice menagerie of five has the decency to look embarrassed and has probably rubbed it off their CV for the sake of their careers.
Watch this film if you must, but thank god (as I do every day) that the spice phenomenon is over.
