Review of Sphere (1998) by Ryan V — 14 May 2012
Based on a Michael Crichton novel, Sphere focuses on an elite scientific team chosen to investigate an alien spacecraft found on the ocean floor. They descend to the murky deep in the hopes of grand discovery, but they end up finding more than they bargained for.
Sphere has a fine cast, but the story and direction feel like a half-baked copy of Alien, The Thing, and a number of other movies. It doesn't really accomplish anything that wasn't done more memorably in those films, so Sphere is pretty skippable.
