Review of Sphere (1998) by Curt F — 09 Jun 2009
When I first DVRed this I thought "Wow, Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel Jackson in a science fiction movie directed by Barry Levinson, how have I not heard of this?" Because it is stupid and pretty much had a fast track to video. Is this the same Levinson that directed Rain Man and Good Morning Vietnam? It can't be can it? Did an alien life form take over his body and create this piece of aquatic garbage?
This movie makes Armageddon and Twister look like best picture nominees. It is like if the Cannonball Run took place under water and was a serious drama.
I have to give it one star because it does have a big cast and the idea of the movie is actually interesting, an alien craft that crash landed in the ocean has been guarded for years by the military. It is all downhill from there though.
The plot was awful. I have to hand it to the actors in this movie, it really wasn't their fault. They did the best they could with this bottom feeder of a story.
