Review of Spellbound (2002) by Milhouse V — 02 Nov 2004
Spellbound is an interesting movie about a seemingly boring subject. It's a documentary that follows eight kids who enter the national spelling bee after winning their regional competitions. They come from a variety of cultural, ethnic, scholastic, and geographical backgrounds and seem to represent the wide spectrum of diverse people in the U.
S. I was amazed at the tension built up throughout the film and how tense I got during the bee. The music is obnoxious and over-used, and the film certainly takes it's time, but those are small complaints.
Give this one a rent, it will be worth your time.
