Review of Spellbound (2002) by Lauren H — 11 Sep 2007
A documentary that follows 8 kids from all across America on their journeys to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 1999. We see kids of varied backgrounds, from the poor daughter of Mexican immigrants in Texas to the rich, white, polo-playing girl from Connecticut.
It's an interesting subject but at times feels really drawn out and slow. All in all, it's a good look at the some-what creepy world of spelling bees.
