Review of Spellbound (2002) by Monika G — 26 Dec 2007
A complement to the famous book, "savage inequalities" about our education system. in the movie, each contestant serves as a microcosm - racial, socioeconomic, geographic, gender - of who we are and where we come from as a society; the opportunities presented to us, our work ethic, etc.
despite the serious message of the documentary, the filmmakers have chosen a backdrop, the spelling bee, the provides for humor, tension, suspense and optimism. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
