Review of Spellbound (2002) by Mark L — 14 Jul 2013
Who'd think a documentary about the long road to the U.S. National Spelling Competition would be so interesting? Nuttiness meets greatness, and a bit of pathology sometimes mixes with genius, and the parents/teachers are nearly as interesting as these fascinating kids.
I actually discovered that I'd quit breathing during a few of the tense moments as these kids stood at the podium. The film editing is solid and crisp, and the music isn't distracting. If you're tired of the same old movie fare, get your geek on with this dellightful documentary.
