Review of Speed Racer (2008) by Juan Carlos G — 07 Jun 2010

I saw "Speed Racer" trying to understand why it was so poorly welcomed in theaters. Well, the answer is obvious: it hesitates too much between sci-fi/action and comedy. This could have been something like "Tron" in its time.

But instead, for a reason I can't quite understand, lousy jokes and characters were inserted into the story, which makes it a hybrid mix between "Beethoven" or even "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" and "Tron" or "Rollerball".

So, yes, it's very hard to take it seriously, though the visual effects are stunning. Too bad.
