Review of Speed Racer (2008) by Eric O — 17 Jul 2010

I've only seen the cartoon a few times, so I'm not a huge fan. Given that, I almost didn't make it through this movie until I finally got a little interested and entertained more than half way through.

Not even Emile Hirsch, who I have fond memories of from Into the Wild, could give me something good to hold onto. The races were cool though, and that's where the super special effects look worked.

Everywhere else I thought it looked too fake and overdone. Plus, all those constant floating heads wiping back and forth across the screen really got to me. Way too much was going on! But thanks to Christina Ricci for the line: "Wow, was that a ninja!".
