Review of Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997) by Black R — 18 Mar 2011
Speed 2: Cruise Control ups the ante by trading in a run-away bus for a run-away ocean liner, all the while proving the age old proverb: "bigger isn't always better.".
The acting is mediocre at best. Jason Patric is the weakest link. Willem Dafoe and Sandra Bullock are the best, respectively.
The direction is stagnant. It's surprising that the director made the original Speed and followed it up with this. He managed to take the franchise to both ends of the spectrum in only two movies.
Although it has its merits, for example the crash scene where the liner plows into a caribbean town is terrific while totally absurd at the same time.
In summation, Speed II is a schlocky near carbon copy of Speed, but if you want to see stuff destroyed - by a cruise ship - then this movie is for you.
