Review of Spectre (2015) by Kate H — 13 Apr 2016
You know the even/odd rule for Star Trek films? Odd numbered films aren't as good as the even numbered ones? I think have the reverse happening here with new James Bond. There's also an overpowering need here to a) get back to the earlier Bonds and b) to have everything connect. The connecting part is kind of nice (we have a reference to every Daniel Craig Bond here) but the Bond formula really starts to work against it as you feel like certain signposts are being ticked and you're waiting for certain things to happen or certain people to show up.
I actually was mostly impressed with this film for not having a sex scene or an obligatory exploitative shot of either the Bond girl or of Bond but, alas, it did happen but just later than I am used to.
It was okay to watch. It went quite a bit long and dragged a bit at points though. Can I request a film starring M, Q, and Moneypenny though? That would be amazing; they all worked really well together.
