Review of Spectre (2015) by Heather M — 13 Apr 2016
This film is just nonsense that wants to be taken seriously. I am sick and tired of films that think they are smart by riffing on older things and don't correct any of the mistakes those aspects may bring.
I thought we were over the big villain telling the hero his entire plot before killing him, or riding away in a helicopter assuming the hero is dead, or a finale that seems to assume the hero is alive when during the whole time a billion henchmen were trying to kill the hero.
What if a henchmen got lucky and shot him? Would the villain be pissed that he couldn't have the standoff he was hoping for? And the idea of linking all the previous Craig Bond movies was utterly rubbish.
It's all telling with no show. The villain can keep saying he was behind everything until he is blue in the face, but that won't make it any less credible. And the Monica Belluci cameo is utterly wasted.
Still Daniel Craig is excellent as Bond. I just wish the better aspects of the franchise were used instead of the tired motif that Bond simply sleeps with every woman after they undergo tragedies. In this film, he shags a woman after her husband's funeral and then a young woman who's father just died.
Classy, Mr. Bond!
