Review of Spectre (2015) by Neil P — 28 May 2016
Please stop fleshing out Bond's childhood! It doesn't work and it doesn't add any value to his antagonists because he is (and always will be) a paperthin character/mythic entity. While we're at it can hollywood stop denying who an actor is playing when it's so obvious that's who they are (it didn't work for Cumberbatch either).
The opening scene was excellent as were a lot of the random excuses for the scenery around the world and up to the halfway point I thought it was an improvement on Skyfall. Then we got backstory nonsense and it began to fall apart again.
The Bond Girl was pretty dull and dated even by the franchise's standards and could have done with more moneypenny. If they could get a story to match the style and gorgeus visuals we'd have had a classic on our hand but scripts seem to be at the bottom of hollywood priority lists.
