Review of Spectre (2015) by Adam B — 07 Apr 2016
The newest entry in the Bond franchise promised to give us a taste of the classics that many long time fans grew up with, but in doing so, sacrificed the new, interesting direction that Skyfall established.
The film shamelessly falls back on the tired formulaic structure that the old Bond films are known for and is riddled with the cheesy cliches as well. The intriguing look into the mindset and soul of Craig's Bond is stripped away and we are given the bare exterior of a character that we have seen countless times before.
While the action remains exciting and delivers on its fast-paced, hard-hitting theatrics, the lackluster narrative leaves much to be desired, especially regarding the man behind the conflict, played by the immensely talented Christoph Waltz.
Instead of a riveting and interesting villain, like Bardem's Silva, we are relegated to a laughably written and paper-thin troublemaker with nothing new to say. Ultimately disappointing and devoid of new ground, this entry fails to make an impact on the franchise.
