Review of Species (1995) by D. B. R — 31 Dec 2007
Well-paced meta-sci-fi that manages to be somewhat evocative and suspenseful in the first reel. All that goes down the shitter, unfortunately, when H.R. Giger's creature design for "Sil" turns out to be not really that good at all, and the chase peters out in a flaming L.
A. sewer. Still, some of the characterizations are genuine, Forest Whitaker is always good, and a skinny Michael Madsen is surprisingly likable as the heavy. Stay away from the sequel, tho; far, far away.
