Review of Species (1995) by Graham M — 19 Apr 2013
An almost completely derivative film, Species borrows equal parts from Ridley Scott's alien and David Cronenberg's various body horror films, particularly Rabid. Still, the film does its borrowing in an entertaining way.
A decent cast of Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Forest Whitaker, and Natasha Henstridge provide a solid base for the film. The film runs about 20 minutes too long, but it still manages to outshine much of the garbage that appeared in theaters as sci-fi horror in the mid-90s.
