Review of Speak (2004) by Yve L — 01 Feb 2010
This movie is based on the wonderful book, "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson. Kristen Stewart shines as "Melinda Sordino," a young high school girl dealing w/ how to live after the trauma of being raped. One of the most beautiful and powerful things about both the story and the movie is how art is incorporated...how art has a way of healing, which Melinda discovers. As an art freak myself, I especially appreciated that.
Not to mention, the difficulty it can be to "speak." If you or anyone has been raped, or is going through any other type of emotional hell, one must speak up...before all is lost...before one's lost in the "silence" of grief/hurt/etc.
